How to Use Binance Pay

Binance Pay is an extremely useful and simple to use service built into the Binance Exchange platform. It allows free and instant sending or receiving of various crypto currencies such as BTC, ETH, BNB, USDT and USDC.

This guide will show how to buy or sell USDT and USDC without fees using Binance Pay.

How to buy USDT or USDC using Binance Pay

Open the Binance app then type pay into the search bar.

Click the pay option that looks like this:

You should then see your PayID in the top left (my own is blurred out). This PayID must be sent to the person you're buying from so they know what account to send it to.

That it, you're done. The person can now send you your USDT, or BUSD for free instantly!

How to Sell USDT or USDC using Binance Pay

Open the Binance app then type pay into the search bar.

Click the pay option that looks like this:

Click the send button near the top left of the Pay screen,

Click Pay ID then type in the buyer's Pay ID and click continue,

You can then click USDT if you want to change the option to USDC, otherwise leave it as is and type the value you want to send to the buyer,

You can then press send and confirm the payment once all the info is correct. After you confirm you should see a Payment successful page.

That it, you're done. You just sent you USDT, or USDC for free instantly!

Converting Crypto Currency in Trinidad and Tobago

In recent years, the world has witnessed a remarkable rise in the popularity and acceptance of cryptocurrencies as an alternative form of currency. Trinidad and Tobago, a beautiful twin-island nation in the Caribbean, has not remained untouched by this global financial revolution. As the adoption of cryptocurrencies continues to gain momentum, more and more Trinidadians are becoming interested in converting their fiat money into digital assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and others.

In this blog post, we will explore the landscape of converting crypto currency in Trinidad and Tobago, specifically how to, some challenges you may encounter and general best practices.

Converting TTD to Crypto Currency

Binance is both a wallet and exchange that allows you to store and convert hundred of cryptocurrency for low fees in seconds.

Once you have a wallet or international crypto exchange setup you can now convert your TTD to crypto currency. In Trinidad and Tobago there are two main ways to get Crypto Currency.

You can use sunshine exchange to purchase stablecoins here "Buy".

You can find a reputable person/ group that buys and/or sells crypto currencies.

We recommend that you purchase a stablecoin (a type of crypto currency that is the same value as the USD). This is because almost everyone sells stablecoins rather than other crypto currencies.

Once you have found a buyer and have agreed to their terms, or set forth your own, you can then give them your wallet address so you can receive the stablecoin. Once you have the stablecoin you can convert the stablecoin to any other crypto currency on Binance.

Converting Crypto Currency to TTD

Once again, due to banking restriction in Trinidad and Tobago you will have difficulty, or find it impossible to receive TTD in exchange from a International Exchange. This means you have to use a local exchange like Sunshine Exchange or sell to persons in Trinidad or Tobago directly.

When selling directly you will need to discuss terms with the buyer and either accept theirs or negotiate with them to accept yours.

Once the terms are agreed upon you will need the person's wallet address for you to send the crypto to and they will need your bank account for you to receive the cash. Alternatively you can meet in person at a safe location like a police station to receive the cash then for you to send the crypto.

USDT, short for United States Dollar Tether, is the most popular stablecoins.

Unlike traditional cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, which can experience extreme price volatility, stablecoins are designed to maintain a stable value. The goal is to peg their value to a more stable asset, in this case the US Dollar (USD), which is why you might often see it referred to as "USDT" or "US Dollar Tether."

This article will explain how USDT works and its use cases to a Trinbagonian.

How does USDT work?

USDT uses a fully collateralized model.

This means the value of the stable coin is backed 1:1 by Cash, Cash Equivalents, Other Short-Term Deposits, Corporate Bonds, Precious Metals, etc..

Tether limited, the issuing company for USDT will issue 1 USDT to a customer when they receive 1 USD, or equivalent, they will then hold the USD dollar in their reserve accounts until that 1 USDT is redeemed by a customer. This results in the value of 1 USDT always being worth USD as 1 USDT can be redeemed for 1 USD at any time.

USDT's peg may fluctuate sometimes due to people buying or selling one USDT for another Digital Asset, this results in the peg moving above or below one dollar. However, these price differences always move back to a 1 dollar due to Tether's ability to always redeem that 1 USDT for 1 USD.

Why use USDT?

Stablecoins have several uses in the digital asset space:

1. Price stability: Stablecoins are often used by traders and investors in the digital asset space to move profits into that are more easily accessible as compared to USD. This allows them to quickly utilize the stablecoin to repurchase a digital asset if the price moves lower while also keeping the value of those profits since stablecoins don't move in price.

What are Crypto Exchanges?

How do Crypto Exchanges Work?
Crypto exchanges have to main methods of operations:

1. By acting as a middle-man matching buyers with sellers thereby allowing investors and traders the ability to safely buy and/ or sell Crypto Currencies with each other. Exchanges normally take a small fee to fulfill your orders this creating a safe place for you to trade Crypto while also benefiting.

2. Directly fulfilling your orders. An exchange may directly buy and sell you Crypto Currencies in exchange for Fiat currencies like USD or TTD.

Most international Crypto Exchanges offer both methods but as a Trinbagonian the majority of Crypto Exchanges only act as a middle man due to restrictions placed on your ability to send or receive USD from an international Crypto Exchange by financial institutions in Trinidad and Tobago . This means you aren't able to directly buy or sell crypto in exchange for Fiat currencies (TTD) on those exchanges.

What are some Popular Crypto Exchanges available in Trinidad and Tobago?

1. Binance (Best all around): Binance is the #1 Crypto Exchange as of July 2023. They have the highest trading volume for several pairs allowing you to easily fill your buy or sell requests. They have dozens of different products other than just spot trading Crypto Currencies. Some of these products are Binance earn that allows you to earn interest on different Digital Assets (around 3.5% for USDT and much more depending on the Digital Asset), Futures, Options, Crypto Custody (Wallet), Learning Programs, Binance Pay (free crypto transfers to other Binance wallets) and several more.

Binance also has a pro mode and lite mode that allows the platform to be user friendly for both Experienced and Beginners to Crypto Currency Investing.

2. Bybit (Best for Traders): Mostly used by Experienced Traders, Bybit offers both the ability to trade spot and futures, and can act as a wallet. They have excellent execution times on buys and sells as well as a better fee structure and trading incentives as compared to other exchanges.

3. Kraken (Safest): Although they may be slightly more expensive than other platforms, with less coin pairs, kraken is probably the most safe by far. Kraken is licensed as a bank in the United States of America thus enabling it to act as a direct on ramp (on ramp means to buy crypto using fiat) for buy crypto currencies. All other crypto exchanges have an intermediary bank or service that allows for on-ramping when available.

Its been a couple months since you bought your first bitcoin, or other crypto, and you're ready to take some profits. Maybe you want to take a break or need some extra cash for an emergency and you need to turn your crypto currency back into TTD, whether that crypto is Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, DOGE, etc...

Selling your crypto currency is even easier than buying it and can take less than a day for you to receive TTD for your crypto currency depending on who you sell it to.

This guide aims to give you the step by step method that you can use to easily sell your crypto currency to a buyer and receive TTD.

Step 1: Convert your Crypto Currency to a Stablecoin.

Why convert it to stablecoins?

If your unsure of what stablecoins are please read "W hat are Stablecoins? | Trinidad and Tobago".

Most buyers in Trinidad and Tobago primarily buy stablecoins, or sometimes Bitcoin. Stablecoins allow you to maintain the dollar value for your cryptocurrency when you're trying to sell it. For this example we will use a cryptocurrency called Ethereum.

All cryptocurrencies values are constantly changing, similarly to how the price of a stock may change at any point when the market is open. This means 1 Ethereum may be worth $2000 now, but in ten minutes 1 Ethereum may be worth $1500. This fluctuation may result in you getting less money as you sent the Ethereum to the buyer when its worth $2000 but they receive it when its worth $1500. The buyer may want to use the price they received it in and refuse to honor the $2000 value, or request some of the money back since it decreased in price when they received it.

By converting your cryptocurrency to a stablecoin before sending it to a buyer, you guarantee the price you will get for 1 Ethereum as you sold your 1 Ethereum when it was worth $2000 and are able to send $2000 Stablecoin to the buyer.

How to convert it to stablecoins?

For this guide we will be using Binance to conduct all transactions, if you need more information on Binance please read "How to Create and Verify your Binance Account".

If you don't use Binance, that's fine too, the same type of transaction can be done on a different wallet but just may have a slightly different process/ look.

First, click on the markets tab

Then search for your coin, for example, if i want to convert my Ethereum to stablecoins I will search ethereumusdt:

click on the first option, in this case ETH/USDT:

next click sell:

click limit and select market:

then type in the amount of eth you want to convert to USDT to sell to your buyer and click sell:

Step 2: Find a Buyer for your Crypto Currency.

When looking for a buyer you can go two different routes:

1. You can sell to buyers in various local crypto communities that discuss the market, or groups that mainly focus on just buying and selling crypto. There are often well known persons in these groups that buy and sell crypto that are willing to meet in person or do bank transfers while being known and trusted by several other group members.

There are also persons in these groups that may try to scam you by impersonating as others, or asking you to send your crypto currency first before you receive the money, therefore utmost precaution must be taken when doing a person to person sale.

If you decide to go this route, its best that you meet in person with the buyer at a safe location such as a police station to ensure the transaction is done smoothly, preferably with you sending your crypto currency after receiving cash/ seeing the bank transfer to ensure you aren't scammed.

2. You can sell to a trusted and reputable company such as Sunshine Exchange where you are sale is guaranteed to be completed without risking your crypto currency. This process can be started by following this "Sell Request" link.

Step 2: Discussing the transaction with the buyer.

Once you've found a buyer, decide how you're going to sell to them. Some buyers may have a process they want you to follow however, only do so if you're comfortable with it.

For example, you may want them to send TTD to your bank account first and then you send the crypto currency, while the other party prefers you send the crypto currency first then they send the TTD to your bank account once they have received it.

It is up to you to decide what route you wish to take with whomever the buy is.

Step 3A. How to Send the Crypto Currency to the Buyer using a Binance account.

You ask the buyer to give you an address to send the crypto currency to.

*If your buyer is using a Binance account please use this guide "How to send crypto currency to a Binance account" instead as Binance account can send to Binance account using a different method for free*.

Once you have converted your crypto currency into a stablecoin you can ask your buyer to send you the wallet address they would like to recieve the stablecoin to, as of writing this article, we recommend using BEP20 (BNB smart chain), or Polygon as wallet address on those networks require less fees to send.

We will use a BEP20 address for this guide, here is an example of one:

Once you have the address you can now go to your wallet by clicking the wallet tab in the bottom right, click spot then click withdraw:

select USDT:

select send via crypto network:

copy the address the person sent and paste it into address:

ensure the network selected is BEP20 (or other respective network such as polygon erc20 etc.):

select the amount you want to send:

select the type of wallet the USDT is in:

then press withdraw:

That it, Congratulations! you just sold your Crypto Currency.

Step 3B. How to send the Crypto Currency to the buyer if using another wallet.

The process is similar, once you have the buyer's wallet address and network the address belongs to. Most wallets will have a button or tab called send or withdraw.

You can click the button then follow the respective wallet's instructions, ensuring the buyer's address is put in correctly.

Once the applications instructions have been followed correctly the sending process should go smoothly.

A lightning address is basically an upgraded bitcoin network that some exchanges/ wallets may support, you can think of it like building a 5 lane superhighway on top of a single lane road to allow traffic to flow more efficiently.

Here is an example of a bitcoin wallet address given by Binance, you can use scan the QR code with your phone if you want or copy paste the text address. Most buyers will give you the address in text format:

Stablecoins are a central and crucial component of they digital asset space as the offer stability in a very volatile market.

This post will explain what stablecoins are, how stablecoins work and their current and future impacts on the digital asset space.

What are Stablecoins

Stablecoins are a type digital currency that is pegged to the value of physical currencies, or assets. This means the value of a stablecoin can be pegged to the United States Dollar, Euros, or even gold. Since stablecoins are pegged they always have the same value as whatever they are pegged to.

The most popular stablecoins:

1. USDC - This stablecoin is issued by a company called Circle. USDC is pegged to the value of the US dollar, therefore 1 USDC will always be worth 1 USD.

2. USDT - This stablecoins is issued by a company called Tether. USDT is pegged to the value of the US dollar, therefore 1 USDT will always be worth 1 USDT

3. PAXG - This stablecoin is issued by a company called Paxos. PAXG is pegged to the value of gold, therefore 1 PAXG will always be worth 1Oz of gold.

4. EUROC - This stablecoin is issued by a company called Circle. EUROC is pegged to the value of the Euro, therefore 1 EUROC will always be worth 1 Euro.

How do stablecoins work

Stablecoins have two main mechanisms of working: full collateralized model and the algorithmic model. In the fully collateralized model, the value of the stable coin is backed 1:1 by real world fiat currencies, or assets eg USD, euros, gold etc...

Companies such as circle will issue 1 USDC to a customer when they receive 1 USD, they will then hold the USD dollar in their reserve accounts until that 1 USDC is redeemed by a customer. This results in the value of 1 USDC always being worth USD as 1 USDC can be redeemed for 1 USD at any time.

The peg of a stablecoin may fluctuate sometimes due to people selling one stablecoin for another, this results in the peg moving, however these price differences always move back to a 1 dollar due to the issuing companies ability to always redeem that stablecoin for 1 USD.

Stablecoin issuers are also independently audited to ensure their accounts balances are balanced and accurate.

Why use stablecoins

Stablecoins have several uses in the digital asset space:

1. They allow for price stability amongst very volatile assets. Stablecoins are often used by traders and investors in the digital asset space to move profits into that are more easily accessible as compared to USD. This allows them to quickly utilize the stablecoin to repurchase a digital asset if the price moves lower while also keeping the value of those profits since stablecoins don't move in price.
